Masterpiece Hillside Massacre!
Yikes! The show had a floor area (special tickets required) surrounded by a big grassy hill, and then the stadium seats. Lots of deadheads standing all
...
the way in the back, at the top of the hill, staring at the police (staring at them...). Every once in awhile a deadhead would take off -- sprinting down the hill, though the line of police, past a line of shrubs, and on to the floor, where they hoped to get lost in the crowd before the pursuing police could grab them. First one person would try this; then another. Some made it past the police; some didn't. During Masterpiece more and more deadheads tried their luck, dashing down the hill. The audience in the stadium seats is spellbound by this game of cat and mouse; cheering when someone makes it past the police; groaning when they don't. The crowd begins to cheer as the deadheads start to pour in, overwhelming the police. The band can't see what's going on in the back, but they seem to be looking at each other -- the crowd is cheering, we must be playing pretty good! So they dig in and play a little harder, and the crowd cheers as more deadheads make it on to the floor, and the band cranks it up even another notch...

Thanks for the Shakedown Stream, Dave, this was a fun one! Although, if I'm being honest, I'm more a fan of Hornsby's guest appearance(s) from the year

prior at RFK. At points it feels like his accordion gets in the way; but there's no question that everyone was clearly having a blast. The fourth quarter takes the cake: Drumz->O1->Stella Blue->NFA with a beautiful Brokedown encore.

it The Human Race is seriously bent on destruction. "It seems like total destruction is the only solution" Anyway, found my hope in Jesus! His Righteousness, NOT mine As for the show. Good to hear this from start to finish. I was so worn out from the heat that except for the power failure this is all new to me. Funny to listen to Weir still influenced by Dylan with that Nasal twang during Big River FOTD- with accordion yeah that is a new twist Almost a little Tex -Mex Polka Masterpiece- A simple little ditty but it sure could shine Really Nice BIRD SONG I kinda got lost in it almost has an TOO feel nice MIDI flute Promised Land THE LEGEND! People shouting HOW BAD IS IT !!! Iko Iko*-This is a strong AIKO and yes Bruce and Brent dueling, Playin'*-> Uncle John's*-> Playin' Jam--CRISP!!! -> Drums-> Jam-> TOO--Soundman bringing the Chula Vista -> Stella , Not Fade, E: Brokedown Wow! NFA is super HOT! --Brokedown --super sweet! A well earned 5 stars "To rock my soul"

ALAN OSTERMAN- YES! !!! it happened during MASTERPIECE! ***
I was already down on floor, but in the back, not far from porta-pottys, and we were watching
...
as the people at the top were pushing in the fence - I'd say most of us were cheering them on. .. when they came all came rushing /sliding down, all the security guards were like headless chickens! They couldn't really catch anyone! (Maybe a handful) Everyone was wet and slippery!! -the one and only time they ever played at ralleigh as we were (not-so-kindly) asked to never return! ! ...The energy from the hill incident still high, the power went out during PROMISED LAND* - just for a minute - and when it came back, the band picked up right where they left off! (It really was like pressing stop and start on a tape as DH225 stated) *I'm grateful for this site - to be able to hear it all again... I remembered the power going out as happening the same time as the hill incident, as my memories tend to mesh and blur with time. So glad there's endless posterity with GD!!!! ***now, listening to promised land, I seem to be having a visual of watching everyone run (and slide) down hill with security chasing ... comical - like a benny hill skit !! .. So to be honest, it could have happened during PL, or was still happening. . (Oh memory... you are so elusive!)*** One of my all-time favorite memories, tho there are many. Thanks for reminding me of it!

The Sliding Incident
Hi. Does anyone remember what song was playing when everyone starting sliding down the mud end zone? Great night. ONLY night I'll ever say that the cops
...
were a horrible presence. There were NC State Troopers on horseback. The guy in the car next to me got busted...with opium...in North Carolina. Sucked to be him. Overall, great night. Drove from Chicago all night, drove all night back, no sleep, one annoying passenger.

Just my 2 cents, but the UJB is, in my humble opinion, one of the best they've done. Besides Jerry getting all the words right ( a rarity!), the jams

are absolutely beautiful. There are a number of stellar versions of course, but 1989-90 produced some of the finest versions out there.

Band Beyond Description
Lightning hit the stage or very near it during Promised. They continued to play briefly with nothing coming out. They shrugged and walked off. In about
...
3 minutes they came back and picked up note for note where they stopped like pressing 'play' from a 'stop'. It was truly like nothing I have ever seen in well over 200 shows. It was in the mid 100s that day, and the storm was welcome. This show's second set totally smokes. The accordion, which I usually detested, does not detract all that much. The Playin' sandwich makes this worth adding to your rotation. The percolator was plugged in, and if you want a taste of the infinite you will get it here in set II. Maybe only a 4* show, with it not being a spacey set I, but the transcendent effort in Promised rates the extra star.

Theres a power shortage in the Promised Land
This is another gift from Charlie Miller. The sound is perfect. The Jack Straw is a solid way to open the show. It takes the band a little bit to warm

up. During Promised Land the power goes out and it takes the crew a few minutes to fix it and then they boys jump right back into the tune right where they left off. I have never heard anything like this. Iko second set opener is solid. Good show overall. BAMMER
